Rampage World Tour: The Best Rampage Game?

Okay folks, let me let you guys in on a secret: We've been taking a break for a long time from editing this website.

Well, there is a reason for this. If any of you know what Flex Central is all about, then yeah... that's what you oughta' know!

So, now let's talk about one of the best game series of all time... Rampage.

This game was kind of a big deal back in 1986 when it came out, you know. It had three playable characters; George The Ape, Lizzie The Lizard, and Ralph The Wolf. If you want to know who my favorite character is, it's Ralph, mainly because he is based on The Wolfman from some of the classic Toho films. All of the characters play the same, but are skinned differently. The plot of this game is that three ordinary people get mutated into monsters in different ways. George was an ordinary man who found a strange vitamin in a test tube. Lizzie was an ordinary woman who got transformed through a radioactive lake, and Ralph was an ordinary man who got transformed through a food additive that got added in a hot dog. These backstories aren't crucial to playing the game, and they are just put in for show.

Despite how famous the game is, and how much praise it has garnered, the gameplay, at least in our opinion, is very repetitive. When it comes to destroying buildings, you can only punch in a few directions, and that's it. Oh, and jumping is a vital part of the game too, but that is pretty much it.

Rampage continued to be pretty popular, having ports released for the NES, the Apple II, the Sega Master System and more. The Atari Lynx version changes the plot of the game to have mutated lab animals instead of humans transforming into monsters, and a fourth playable character named Larry, a rat, was added. His backstory is the same as all of the other's in this game.

Things went quiet for Rampage for a long time... until the franchise got revived in 1997! Speaking of which, 1997 is a goldmine of a year when it comes to media. South Park was greenlit, music was a'boomin, and more was spawning out of the precious gift known as human imagination.

The series was revived with the classic game known as Rampage World Tour! It had an entirely different, but similar backstory to the first game. The story goes that one day, in ScumLabs Inc., three scientists named George, Lizzie, and Ralph, were workin' as usual, when all of the sudden, BOOM! They turn into giant monsters who work together (...or not) to get rid of ScumLabs so that nobody will have to experience their wrath ever again. Sounds cool, right? Well... yes it is!

The gameplay is pretty simple, just like the original, but there are tons of great new features added! In the home console versions of the game, you can play as any one of the three monsters. That's pretty cool, because when I was younger, playing Midway Arcade Treasures, I always wanted to play as Ralph by himself. However, it took me more than a decade to figure out that you needed a PlayStation 2 MultiTap to actually play as him by using the player 3 port on the first controller. In the Nintendo 64 version, you can change the color of your monster by pressing up and down on the D-Pad.

Enough of that, what about the actual gameplay? Well, it's wild!

In this game, you can do more than just punching. You can also kick, which does even more consecutive damage to buildings, which can really help you when it comes to destroying all of the buildings in the town you are in. You can even transform into a abominable monster named V.E.R.N, otherwise known as the Violent Enraged Radioactive Nemesis.

V.E.R.N is probably my favorite playable character in the game. He/She can fly, jump high, but not only that, he can also punch through entire subsections of buildings, and he can also breathe fire which can destroy helicopters with ease!
